Scheduling a lactation consultation is the most effective way to get the support you need to breastfeed successfully. Consultations are provided in the privacy of your own home and initial consultations take 2-3 hours. Each consultation includes:
A full medical history of mother and baby, including health and hormonal issues, birth and breastfeeding experience
Evaluations of latch and milk transfer and/or pumping evaluation
Assessment of infant oral and structural anatomy
Education about typical infant behavior
Plenty of time to address questions and concerns
Referrals to other health care providers and community resources
A written, customized plan of care designed to meet your breastfeeding goals, including links, studies, and information sheets on relevant topics
Insurance documents to submit for reimbursement
A comprehensive report sent to your health care provider(s)
Infant feeding issues can be time sensitive, if you need help, CALL NOW! I answer phone calls, texts, and emails as promptly as possible, 7 days a week. Families can often be seen the same day or within 24 hours.
Many insurance companies cover in-person lactation consultations. I am an in-network provider with Aetna, Cofinity, and Connect Care. I also bill MESSA and some Cigna plans directly. Please read this blog post for more details.
