Thank you for scheduling with us! The following should help you prepare and feel more confident about your virtual consultation.

How to prepare:

As soon as your consultation day/time is approved, you will be emailed a consent/HIPAA form and an intake form. These forms will be submitted through a secure, online system and should take around 15 minutes. If these forms are not completed at least 24 hours before the time of your consultation, it may be canceled. If you have BCBS, Cigna, or Anthem PPO, pre-approval must be obtained online through the form at Lactation Network. You will receive an email (often within a few hours) letting you know if you are eligible for coverage.

We recommend a second person attend your consultation. Not only can they help position the camera so we can better see you and your baby, but it always helps to have another set of eyes and ears. Please have your baby available during the consultation!

If a second person is not available during the consultation or you would just like to optimize our time together, sending us videos is extremely helpful! Helpful videos include…

  • Your baby initially latching on or attempting to latch, the first few minutes of the feeding, and an up close shot of your baby’s mouth at the breast
  • Your entire body and the position you are holding your baby
  • An up close view of your baby crying (diaper changes are a great time for this if you have a newborn) to help me evaluate oral anatomy
  • Your baby bottle feeding (if fed in this manner), including an up close of your baby’s face and mouth and their entire body
  • An oral motor assessment of your baby

**All shared videos will be stored securely in a HIPAA compliant system and can be uploaded in the message or documents section of the Practice Better client portal.

If you have concerns regarding any breastfeeding equipment, please have it close to you and ready before the consultation.

Having a list of previous weights, feeding times/lengths, and supplementation amounts will allow us to have a clearer picture of your needs.

If you have questions about insurance coverage, please contact your insurance company before we meet. This blog post has thorough information.

Relax! We are so glad you reached out for support! Our goal is to leave you with a care plan that helps you feel confident in working toward your breastfeeding goals, enjoying parenting, and forming a healthy relationship with your baby!
