We work hard to stay up-to-date on the latest recommendations involving communicable disease, so we can continue to meet the needs of the families we serve. The health of our clients’ families and our own families is our top priority!
Policy/procedure changes (revised 3/18/24):
- Virtual consultations are available for families who find this more comfortable or convenient. Many insurance companies cover virtual consultations. Please note that parents will be responsible for arranging a method to accurately weigh their baby. For initial consultations, oral and infant assessment require parents to take and send videos through a secure platform so we can adequately assess.
- During in-person consultations, you can expect the following…
-
- The CDC no longer recommends universal masking in healthcare facilities. As healthcare providers who work with a vulnerable population, we may continue to wear a surgical mask when coming into close contact with parents and babies. Masks are optional for all clients.
- Our office has a medical grade HEPA/UV filter. Every surface that comes into contact with clients is sanitized regularly.
- All blankets and pillow cases are changed between clients, washed in a sanitary washing machine cycle, and dried on hot. Breastfeeding supplies are pressure cooked for 60 minutes, in addition to being briefly sanitized directly before client use.
- All clients are sent a health screening survey 24 hours before a scheduled visit.
- We promptly reschedule consultations or switch to telehealth if we have any sign of illness. Note: We are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
- We remove our shoes as soon as we arrive to your home.
- We wash and/or sanitize our hands frequently and before touching and assessing your infant.
- Every item used during a consultation is thoroughly sanitized.
- Gloves are worn and changed frequently when touching you, your baby, or any breastfeeding equipment.
- If there is anything else we can do to make you and your family feel safe and comfortable, please let us know!
Where to find further information on COVID-19 and breastfeeding:
- There is currently no evidence that COVID-19 passes through breastmilk, although it is well documented that breastfeeding protects against flu and many other viruses. The CDC recommends continued breastfeeding or milk expression with special precautions in place if a parent has confirmed COVID-19. For more information, visit the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines, ABM Statement on Coronavirus 2019, or World Health Organization guidelines.
- The Evidence Based Birth Resource Page includes a sample informed consent and free birth class.
- The CDC website and the State of Michigan website also have reliable guidance and factual information regarding COVID-19.
- Michigan has also set up a hotline to call with concerns regarding COVID-19 (1-888-535-6136).
- As our situation changes, I will adjust recommendations and practices accordingly and update this page. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact email or text me (989-798-3375).
